R.H. Ghan Commercial Properties learned on Tuesday Feb.1 2011 that the U.S. Postal Service announced that on March 26 they will close the 3400 Rogers Ave. Station in Fort Smith. According to the USPS statement “The postal employees will be reassigned in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and established a repositioning process.” There are five stations still open in the Fort Smith area with the possibility of 3318 South 74th st. said to be closed down some time in March. Thomas Henry the Postal 1211 Union President has stated that Like everything else, it’s a case of everybody who wants it to remain open, to walk to the post office…and ask them to reverse that decision. The newly appointed Post Master, General Patrick Donahoe, announced a restructured plan that included a 16% reduction in officer ranked positions and a realignment of revenue-generating business units including a closing of a large regional office in Memphis.
