Gerber Plans to Expand Fort Smith Plant

R.H. Ghan Commercial Properties would like to congratulate Gerber on their recently announced plans to expand their Fort Smith plant. Gerber officials will soon begin work on a $89.9 million expansion that will create up to 50 new jobs for the area. The company says the new expansion will be "the most significant expansion and re-design" of the plant since its opening in 1964. Construction will begin immediately and is projected to be completed by September of 2012. The company also said renovations will be made to "support continous operational improvement and increase production capacity." Patrick Murry, Gerber's Fort Smith plant manager, said "this investment is truly a testament to the hard work and commitment of our employees." Murry has been working on the project since July 2009. The expansion project is part of the economic development pipeline recently projected by the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce. Govener Mike Beebe said in a statement "this expansion by Gerber illustrates the continued revival and growth of manufacturing in Ft.Smith. It is the continued success of respected companies like Nestle that will show other prospective businesses the benefits of locating in Sebastian County." R.H. Ghan Commercial Properties would like to congratulate Gerber for their continued success.
