R.H. Ghan Commercial Properties is excited to announce that Fort Smith was recently named the cheapest city to live in by Kiplinger.com. In a recent raking held by the website, Fort Smith came out first, or least expensive, among U.S. cities with metropolitan populations of 75,000 or more. The report is based on the ACCRA cost of living index and on medium household income and average home prices from Toronto-based Martin Prosperity Institute. According to the report, Fort Smith's latest cost-of-living index is 85.2. This number is well below the ACCRA composite score of 100 which represents an average cost of living among the 300-plus cities surveyed each quarter. Cheryl Garner, Vice President of Economic Development for the chamber, said the quarterly COLI report is "definatley a tool we use proactively." Garner also added "it's a huge asset when we're communicating with prospective companies to talk about the low cost of doing business and the low cost of living, especially in the current economic environment." In fact, in the last six months Garner said "more than half of the chambers calls and leads have come directly from companies themselves, often based on COLI and other reports that call attention to Fort Smith during their prelimenary searches." In Kiplinger's ranking seven of the top ten cheapest cities are in the south. Along with Fort Smith is sixth-ranked Conway. R.H. Ghan Commercial Properties would like to congratulate the city of Fort Smith on it's recent recognition.
